The Yorkshire Terrier: All About Yorkies

yorkie.jpg

Yorkshire Terriers, commonly referred to as Yorkies, are small, adorable dogs that are known for being feisty, dedicated, and loving. They make the perfect pets for just about anyone, including those with older children in the home. It is not uncommon to see owners of Yorkshire Terriers carrying their pups around with them in purses and in comfortable pet carriers because these pups are so small and lightweight. In fact, Yorkshire Terries typically weigh no more than seven pounds at most.

A Yorkie’s coat is a combination of tan, black, and gray. These dogs tend to have a lot of hair that grows in rather quickly, but the professional groomers at Petite Pets Puppy Boutique can easily trim the hair and style it to the pet owner’s liking. Routine grooming sessions are a must for these dogs. When they are not properly groomed, the hair can start to get in the eyes and will likely get matted, causing discomfort for the animal.

The average Yorkie will live for around 15 years, but some end up living even longer lives. Many pet lovers refer to this breed as the companion breed because these dogs are loving and are generally easy to travel with. Anyone who owns a Yorkshire Terrier knows how loyal these dogs are. Aside from their loyalty, they are known for being affectionate, slightly sensitive, energetic, and extremely playful. Anyone who chooses to own a Yorkie should be prepared to take the dog for regular walks and play with it as often as possible because this breed is known for its high energy levels.

Although they are loving dogs that tend to get along well with humans, they are not necessarily the most dog-friendly animals on the planet. Some Yorkshire Terriers do not get along with other dogs and other animals in general, so they are often best for those with no other pets. However, it is not impossible to train a Yorkie to get along better with other animals that are living in the home, even if it takes a bit of time.

Yorkshire Terriers are great dogs to own, but they are not necessarily ideal for everyone. Those with small children or lots of other pets may want to consider getting a different breed. These dogs need love, attention, and lots of grooming, but it is worth it for the right person who is willing to dedicate their time and energy to caring for one of these adorable dogs. Those looking for a small dog with a big heart will love having a Yorkshire Terrier.
